Expats send $2.41bn in December

In the first 28 days of December this year, expatriates sent $2.4055 billion to Bangladesh through banking channels. At an exchange rate of 123 taka per dollar, this equals 29,772 crore taka.

Bangladesh Bank shared this data on Sunday (December 29).

The average daily remittance inflow during these 28 days was $86.448 million, surpassing the daily figures from both November this year ($73.333 million) and December last year ($66.392 million). This trend marks a positive end to the year for remittance inflows.

According to Bangladesh Bank’s analysis, $689.58 million was sent via state-owned commercial banks, $92.69 million through specialized agricultural banks, $1.63136 billion via private sector commercial banks, and $6.92 million through foreign banks operating in the country.

Among individual banks, Islami Bank received the largest share of remittances, totaling $334.209 million, accounting for 14% of the total inflow.
