Update : 02 Jan 2025, 12:38

The voter population in Bangladesh has increased to 123,683,512, with the addition of 1,833,352 new voters. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah announced this during a briefing at the Election Commission's media center on Thursday.

As of January 1, 2023, the total number of voters stood at 119,333,157, including 60,592,169 male voters, 58,740,140 female voters, and 848 transgender voters.

Following the final update on March 2, 2024, the voter count rose to 121,850,160, reflecting an annual increase of 2,517,003 voters. However, due to time constraints during the preparation of the electoral roll, some eligible voters were not included in the updated list.

This year, an additional 1,833,352 voters have been registered, bringing the total to 123,683,512.

According to regulations, Bangladeshi citizens become eligible to register as voters upon turning 18 years old. Each year, the Election Commission releases a draft voter list on January 2. After addressing claims and objections, the final list is published on March 2, forming the basis for national and local elections.

The Election Commission emphasized that the current update process is designed not only to increase the number of voters but also to enhance transparency and inclusivity. The final voter list, scheduled for release on March 2, will ensure that newly registered voters can participate in upcoming elections.

Following the publication of the final list, voters across Bangladesh will begin preparations for the upcoming national and local government elections.
