No women's BPL this year

Update : 26 Jan 2025, 09:53

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had previously announced plans to organize a Women's BPL with three participating teams. The tournament was initially scheduled to take place in February.

Media reports indicated that Rangpur Riders, Fortune Barishal, and Dhaka Capitals had expressed interest in owning teams. It was also revealed that the maximum salary for women cricketers would be set at 5 lakh taka, with plans to include at least one foreign player per team.

However, following the 17th board of directors meeting held on Saturday, it was officially announced that the Women's BPL will not proceed at this time. The BCB, which faced significant criticism during the organization of the Men's BPL, has decided against rushing into organizing the women's tournament to avoid further complications.

After the meeting, BCB's Media Committee Chairman, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, stated, "The decision has been made not to rush." This decision has prematurely dashed the hopes of women cricketers looking forward to participating in the BPL. In addition, the meeting addressed several key decisions related to the ongoing Men's BPL.
