A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the confiscation of a flat registered in the name of Zarif Hamid, 33, son of former State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid (alias Bipu).
The court also instructed freezing of 17 bank accounts belonging to Zarif and imposed a travel ban on him.
The Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metro, Md Zakir Hossain, issued the orders following an appeal by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC statement, Zarif Hamid owns a flat in the Banani area of the capital, valued at Tk 12.7 million.
Additionally, 17 bank accounts in his name hold a total of Tk 106.5 million. The ACC also reported Zarif holds savings certificates worth Tk 5 million.
Earlier, on January 16, the court issued a travel ban on Nasrul Hamid and his wife, Sima Hamid.
The ACC informed the court that Nasrul Hamid had abused his power as a state minister to facilitate the illegal accumulation of assets worth Tk 69.8 million by his wife.
On December 26 last year, the ACC filed a case against Nasrul Hamid, accusing him of amassing illegal wealth and engaging in abnormal transactions across 98 bank accounts.
The government’s anti-corruption body also lodged separate cases against his wife, Sima Hamid, and son, Zarif Hamid, for allegedly acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income. Nasrul Hamid has been named as an accused in all of these cases.
