Voter List Update

Over 1mn deceased voters identified

The Election Commission (EC) has collected information on more than 4.7 million citizens through its door-to-door voter list update campaign.

Among them, 3,745,784 individuals will be newly registered as voters, while the names of 1,039,220 deceased voters will be removed.

On Monday, the final day of data collection, A.S.M. Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing, shared this information with the media.

He stated that as of Sunday, February 2, data on 1,039,220 deceased voters had been collected. Additionally, information on 3,745,784 new eligible voters had been gathered. Since Monday’s data has not yet been included, these numbers may increase or decrease.

The Election Commission launched the data collection process on January 20 as part of its door-to-door voter list update initiative. Monday (February 3) marked the final day of data collection.

From February 5, the process of capturing photographs, fingerprints, and iris scans will begin, continuing until April 11. Since the introduction of the photo-based voter list in 2007-2008, the voter list has been updated six times through door-to-door campaigns conducted in 2009-2010, 2012-2013, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2019-2020, and 2022-2023.
