Govt drops police verification for passport issuance, renewal

Update : 04 Feb 2025, 21:27

From now on, police verification will no longer be mandatory for issuing and renewing passports. This information was revealed on Tuesday by a source from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Earlier on the day, a meeting was held at the Secretariat, presided over by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Nasimul Gani, to address passport-related issues.

From now on, national identity cards (NID) and birth certificates will serve as the primary basis for passport issuance.

If these two documents are accurate, there should be no obstacles in the passport issuance process. Following the advisory council's recommendation on this matter, the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs has begun working on its implementation.
