Eid-ul-Fitr 2025

Manage one day off for a 9-day holiday

Update : 25 Feb 2025, 06:41

On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, government employees in Bangladesh could enjoy a continuous 6-day holiday this year. If someone manages to take an extra day off, they could extend their break to a total of 9 consecutive days.

It has been reported that, depending on the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated in the country on Monday, March 31. The official holiday schedule has been set accordingly.

The Advisory Council approved a five-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr on October 17 of last year, an increase from the previous three days. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding the holiday schedule on October 21.

According to the notification, Monday, March 31, will be a general holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. The two preceding days, March 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday), as well as the two following days, April 1 and 2 (Tuesday and Wednesday), will be government holidays by executive order.

Friday, March 28, will be a regular weekly holiday. Altogether, this will give government employees a 6-day continuous break.

However, if any government employee can manage to take leave on Thursday, April 3, they will enjoy an additional 3 days of holiday. This is because the following two days, Friday and Saturday, are regular weekends. In that case, the employee could enjoy a total of 9 consecutive days off.
