Update : 02 Mar 2025, 13:48

The Election Commission (EC) has released the final voter list for the country, including voters added in 2024. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced that the total number of voters is now 123.7 million (12 crore 37 lakh 32 thousand 274).

The announcement was made on Sunday during the inauguration of National Voter Day at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon area of the capital.

This year's theme is "In Bangladesh, Our Vote, United We Vote." The EC has organized discussions for Voter Day, and field-level offices will carry out various activities.

The Director-General of the National Identity Registration Division, ASM Humayun Kabir, said on Saturday that National Voter Day is observed every year on March 2 according to existing rules. The final voter list will be published on this day, following the release of the draft list on January 2.

The EC announced that the CEC, along with the other four election commissioners and senior officials from the Election Commission Secretariat, will inaugurate the Voter Day program at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday. A procession will follow at 9:30 a.m., and a discussion will take place at the Election Building’s basement at 11 a.m. During the program, smart cards will be distributed to some voters who were injured in the July mass uprising.

On January 2, the draft voter list was published, which included 18,33,352 new voters, bringing the total to 123.7 million. The list consisted of 63.3 million male voters, 60.3 million female voters, and 994 transgender voters.

After claims and objections were processed, the EC expects the final voter list to show an increase of over 2 million new voters.

The EC also mentioned that from January 20, the voter list update process has been ongoing, with information collected from approximately 5.1 million citizens. This includes individuals born on or before January 1, 2008, who have not yet registered as voters. The names of deceased individuals have been removed. The updated voter list is expected to be finalized by June, in preparation for the general election in December.
