The Ministry of Education has canceled the previous order that reserved a 5% quota for the children of families affected by the July-August uprising when applying for admission to government schools.
However, a new directive has been issued to reserve one additional seat per class for the children of those injured or martyred in the July 2024 mass uprising, beyond the seats allocated for the admission lottery.
On Monday, March 3, the previous order was revoked, and a new order was issued, signed by Deputy Secretary (Secondary-1) of the Ministry of Education, Mosammat Rahima Akter.
According to the new directive, many students and citizens were injured or martyred during the July-August 2024 mass uprising. Therefore, the order issued on February 20, 2025, regarding their admission to government secondary schools has been canceled, and a new order has been introduced.
The order states that in government secondary schools, one additional seat per class will be reserved for the children of families affected by the July 2024 uprising, in addition to the seats allocated through the admission lottery.
To qualify for this reserved seat, applicants must submit certified copies of relevant documents or gazettes as proof along with their application. The original documents must be presented at the time of admission.
Furthermore, the admission process must be carried out after proper verification of the gazettes issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs concerning the martyrs of the July 2024 mass uprising.
If there are no eligible candidates from the affected families, the reserved seats will be filled from the merit list. In no case shall these seats remain vacant.
Previously, on March 2, an order issued on February 20 stated that children of families affected by the July-August 2024 uprising would receive a 5% quota in government school admissions, similar to the quota for freedom fighters’ descendants.
The order specified that 5% of seats in government secondary schools would be reserved for the children of freedom fighters, martyrs, and those injured or martyred in the July 2024 mass uprising.
