Ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway will start selling advance intercity train tickets online from March 14. The advance ticket sales will continue for seven consecutive days.
On Thursday (March 6), Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain confirmed this information.
Afzal Hossain stated that, like previous years, all advance tickets will be sold online. No advance tickets will be sold at the counters.
He further mentioned that a total of five pairs of Eid special trains will operate this year, and Eid travel will commence on March 24. Several special trains may also be introduced on different routes during Eid.
However, the exact number of special trains has not yet been finalized. Routes will be determined based on passenger demand. This year, 35,315 advance tickets will be sold daily from Dhaka for Eid travel.
Earlier, on Tuesday afternoon, a preparatory meeting for Eid-ul-Fitr was held, presided over by the Director General of Bangladesh Railway.
Railway officials who attended the meeting stated that a proposal was made to add extra engines and coaches to the trains. Plans have been made to add 36 additional coaches for Eid travel.
Among them, some meter-gauge coaches will be brought from the Pahartali workshop, while some broad-gauge coaches will be brought from the Saidpur workshop.
