Advance ticket sales for Eid travel ended on Thursday (March 20). Passengers who purchased advance tickets will begin their journey home on March 24.
On the same day, advance return tickets for trains and buses will go on sale. Although there is some dissatisfaction regarding the online ticketing system for trains and buses this Eid, passengers are not having to wait in long queues.
This year, an additional 25% standing tickets will be available for each intercity train, which can be purchased from the departure station before the journey begins.
For return journeys, a passenger can buy advance tickets only once and can purchase up to four seats. Tickets purchased for Eid travel are non-refundable.
Meanwhile, the railway authority has announced the operation of 10 special trains for Eid. These trains will run on the following routes:
Dhaka to Dewanganj
Chattogram to Chandpur
Bhairab Bazar to Kishoreganj
Mymensingh to Kishoreganj
Joydebpur (Gazipur) to Parbatipur
Additionally, the railway authority will introduce 44 new coaches to existing intercity trains to accommodate the Eid rush.
Expecting an increase in bus passengers, Md. Jubayer Masud, office secretary of the Dhaka Bus Owners' Association, stated that the demand for advance bus tickets has been low.
However, he anticipates a surge in passengers from March 24 as people start traveling home for Eid, which should compensate for the initial lower demand.
