The death toll from the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has risen to nearly 700, as reported by the government and state-run media on Saturday.
According to MRTV, a statement from the military-led government confirmed that 694 people have been found dead, while 1,670 others sustained injuries, with an additional 68 also reported injured, UNB reports.
The earthquake struck around midday on Friday near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, causing widespread destruction as buildings collapsed in multiple areas.
