EC crash program to clear NID backlog

Update : 22 Apr 2025, 23:39

To expedite the process of correcting National Identity Cards (NIDs), the Election Commission (EC) has launched a "crash program" aimed at resolving NID correction applications by June. As part of this initiative, the commission has delegated the authority to handle more complex applications to senior district and district election officers.

This information was revealed in an official order signed by Md. Abdul Halim Khan, Director of the National Identity Registration Division.

The order states that, under this special initiative (crash program) for processing NID correction applications, senior district and district election officers from all 64 districts have been given the authority to resolve applications categorized as "Category C."

Additionally, considering the volume of applications in the Dhaka, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Mymensingh regions, several officials from the National Identity Registration Division have also been assigned responsibilities alongside the respective senior district and district election officers.

According to a recent coordination meeting of the EC, there are currently around 400,000 pending applications for NID correction.
