After keeping fuel prices unchanged for two consecutive months, the government has reduced the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol, and octane by Tk 1 per litre for May, this year.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday evening (April 30).
According to the new rates, the price of diesel and kerosene has been reduced from Tk 105 to Tk 104 per litre. Similarly, the price of octane and petrol has been reduced by Tk 1 to Tk 125 and Tk 121 per litre respectively.
Earlier, on the first day of February, the price of diesel and kerosene was increased by Tk 1—from Tk 104 to Tk 105 per litre. At the same time, octane and petrol prices were raised by Tk 1, setting the new prices at Tk 126 and Tk 122 per litre respectively. Prices remained unchanged for the following two months, March and April.
Since March last year, the government has been implementing an automatic pricing mechanism for fuel in line with global market trends. Under this system, new prices are announced each month.
Following the assumption of office, the interim government has at times reduced fuel prices, kept them unchanged in certain months, and increased them in others.
The first fuel price adjustment by the interim government was made on August 31 last year. For September, petrol and octane prices were reduced by Tk 6 per litre, while diesel and kerosene were reduced by Tk 1.25 per litre.
In October, the fuel prices set for November included a 50 paisa reduction in the price of diesel and kerosene—bringing them down to Tk 105 per litre—while the prices of petrol and octane remained unchanged.
On the last day of December, another adjustment brought down the price of diesel and kerosene by Tk 1 to Tk 104 per litre. Petrol remained at Tk 121, and octane at Tk 125 per litre, as before.
