Khaleda to fly home in air ambulance, not Biman

Update : 03 May 2025, 20:13

After receiving medical treatment, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to return to Bangladesh from London, UK, on Monday.

Initially, the BNP had announced that she would return on a regular flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. However, the party has now confirmed that she will be returning via an air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar. The exact time of arrival has not yet been finalized.

On Saturday evening (May 3), BNP Chairperson's media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan stated, “Madam is returning to the country on Monday (May 5) in the air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar.”

Earlier, on Friday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media that Khaleda Zia would be returning from London on May 5 (Monday) after four months.

He said, “InshaAllah, Madam is returning to the country on the morning of May 5. As far as we know, she will be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law — Zubaida Rahman (wife of Tarique Rahman) and Syeda Sharmila Rahman (wife of Arafat Rahman).”

When asked about Khaleda Zia’s current health, the BNP Secretary General said, “Alhamdulillah, she is definitely doing better than before.”

Regarding her mode of return, he added, “The air ambulance we had received from the Emir of Qatar to take Madam to London is facing some technical delays... For that reason, Madam has decided that if the air ambulance cannot be arranged at the last moment, she will return on a Biman Bangladesh flight.”

It is worth noting that Khaleda Zia was taken to London for advanced medical treatment on January 8. After 17 days of hospitalization, she was discharged from the London Clinic on January 25 and moved to the residence of Tarique Rahman. This year, for the first time in over six years, the BNP Chairperson celebrated Eid with her family members.
