After India's military operation "Operation Sindoor," Pakistan has launched a counterattack. This has led to a state of war-like tension between the two neighboring countries.
Several airports in northern India have been shut down indefinitely due to this retaliation from Pakistan, according Indian news media Anandabazar.
Anandabazar's report stated that many domestic and international flights from these airports have been canceled. In response, several airlines, including Air India, SpiceJet, and IndiGo, have issued statements to facilitate passengers.
On its social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Air India announced:
"Due to the current situation, all flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been canceled until 12 PM on Wednesday. Incoming flights scheduled to land at these airports have also been canceled."
The airline further mentioned that two international flights bound for Amritsar were redirected to Delhi.
SpiceJet's statement noted:
"Multiple airports in northern India, including Dharamshala, Leh, Srinagar, and Amritsar, are temporarily closed. As a result, we have suspended our flights to these locations."
Passengers were advised to verify relevant information before their journey.
Similarly, IndiGo stated:
"All flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala have been canceled. No flights will take off or land at these airports until further notice."
IndiGo further mentioned that later, flight services from Jodhpur and Bikaner were also disrupted.
Background:
Recently, 26 tourists were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for the attack, while Pakistan denied involvement.
In the midst of rising tensions, the Indian military launched multiple missile strikes on several Pakistani cities late Tuesday night. The operation was named "Operation Sindoor." On the other hand, Pakistan labeled the Indian attack as "unprovoked and cowardly," and has begun retaliatory strikes.
According to Geo News, in the counterattack, Pakistan destroyed five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets, a drone, and a brigade headquarters. Security sources reported that the Pakistan Army shot down an Indian drone that violated Pakistani airspace in the Barnala sector.
In light of the current situation, Indian authorities have advised citizens to remain alert and avoid traveling to northern India unless absolutely necessary.
