The drums of war are sounding between the two hostile neighboring states, India and Pakistan. A slight misstep could trigger a full-scale war between the two nations.
In this tense situation, U.S. President Donald Trump has urged India and Pakistan to immediately cease hostilities, reports the Dawn.
In a statement from the White House, President Trump mentioned that he has good relations with both India and Pakistan and is willing to help mediate to resolve the conflict.
Highlighting his familiarity with both nations, Trump said, "The situation is really very dangerous. I want them to resolve the matter. I want them to stop."
The U.S. President added that both sides have been carrying out retaliatory attacks. "I am hoping that at least now they will stop," he said. Speaking to reporters, Trump also added, "If I can help in any way, I surely will."
Tensions had been escalating between India and Pakistan since April 22, following a terrorist attack in Kashmir that left 26 tourists dead. India blamed Pakistan for the attack.
In response, on Tuesday night, India launched massive missile strikes at at least six locations in Pakistan. The attacks killed at least 31 people and injured more than 50.
Pakistan retaliated against India's assault, claiming that it shot down five Indian fighter jets. Additionally, Pakistan's border shelling reportedly killed at least 15 people.
In a televised address to the nation yesterday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, "We pledge to take revenge for the blood of the innocent martyrs."
Amidst this highly tense situation, Trump called on India and Pakistan to immediately halt their conflict.
