Rupankar Bagchi, one of the most celebrated vocalists from West Bengal, enjoys immense popularity in Bangladesh.
Yet, he has recorded only a handful of songs specifically for the Bangladeshi audience. Addressing that gap, Ajob Records has recently released his latest single, Kemon Acho Tumi (“How Are You?”), according to a statement.
The lyrics were written by renowned Bangladeshi lyricist Mahmud Manjur (pen name of Al Mahmud Manjur), with melody and music arrangement by Joy Shahriar. The song's emotive lyrics include:
Kemon acho tumi / Niyecho ki khonj / Kemon acho tumi / Bhabi aaj-o roj / Bishash hobe na jani / Bhalobasha noy eto sohoj / Eto je bhalobasha-bashi / Sobtuku aaj hoye gechhe nikhonj...
(How are you? / Have you asked around? / How are you? / I still wonder every day / You wouldn’t believe it, I know / Love isn’t that simple / So much love we shared / Now it’s all gone, vanished...)
Speaking about the release, Mahmud Manjur said: “There’s no need to say much about Rupankar’s voice—he is an essential figure in Bengali music. This song turned out beautifully. Although we created it quite some time ago, it took a while to reach listeners. I hope the audience will be touched by it. That would be the song’s true success.”
Rupankar Bagchi commented: “I always look forward to working on songs from Bangladesh. I’ve done a few in the past, and I really liked the lyrics, tune, and arrangement of this one. I believe listeners on both sides of the border will enjoy it.”
Notably, other Indian artists such as Shubhomita, Palak Muchhal, and Silajit have also performed songs written by Mahmud Manjur in the past.
