DSCC services halted amid protests

Update : 21 May 2025, 19:26

All citizen services of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have come to a halt due to protests by supporters of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain and a work stoppage by employees.

DSCC Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia confirmed the development to the media on Wednesday (May 21).

He said, “All citizen services inside Nagar Bhaban have been suspended for the past few days. Today, the regional offices of DSCC are also closed. As a result, we are unable to provide any services to the residents of Dhaka South.”

Supporters of Ishraq have been staging a week-long protest in front of Nagar Bhaban, demanding that he be sworn in as mayor. Due to the protest, the building has been locked down, halting all services. In addition, all eight regional offices of the DSCC are also closed.

When asked whether there had been any discussion with DSCC employee unions, Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia said, “We have informed higher authorities about the matter. They will make the necessary decisions.”
