Rainfall to continue for 5 more days

The ongoing rainfall across the country is expected to persist for at least five more days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. This information was shared in a forecast issued on Thursday (May 22) morning.

The weather bulletin stated that the trend of rainfall will continue over the next five days, and the intensity may increase in the following five days.

According to the bulletin, the southwest monsoon has advanced up to the Akyab coast of Myanmar, and conditions are favorable for its further advancement.

Additionally, a weak low-pressure trough extends from West Bengal across southwestern Bangladesh to the northern Bay of Bengal. The forecast also mentioned that a new low-pressure system may form in the southern Bay of Bengal around May 26.

For the 24-hour period from 9 AM today, the forecast suggests light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions. Temporary gusty winds may also accompany the rain.

In Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, one or two areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Particularly in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, there is a chance of moderate to very heavy rain.

Despite the rain, heatwaves are still affecting certain regions. Mild heatwaves are sweeping over Madaripur, Pabna, Khulna, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, and Satkhira, and these conditions may persist for a few more days.

Yesterday, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Jashore at 37.4°C.

Meanwhile, in the 24 hours leading up to 6 AM, the highest recorded rainfall was in Sylhet, at 110 millimeters, while Dhaka recorded 33 millimeters during the same period.
