Update : 24 May 2025, 15:36

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will not resign, confirmed Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud. He said, "The Chief Adviser is staying with us. Other advisers are also staying. We are here to carry out the responsibilities assigned to us."

On Saturday (May 24), members of the interim government's advisory council held a closed-door meeting. After the meeting, the Planning Adviser briefed reporters. The meeting began at 12:20 PM and ended around 2:20 PM at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

Earlier, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held a meeting at 11 AM in the same venue. That meeting ended around 12:15 PM, after which the unscheduled advisory council meeting commenced. The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and attended by 19 advisers.

Due to urgent commitments, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan left the meeting shortly after 2 PM. She stated that discussions during the meeting focused on elections, reforms, and the July declaration. She said there would be a press briefing after the meeting. However, she did not comment on the resignation of the Chief Adviser.

Shortly afterward, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain and Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan were also seen leaving.

According to meeting sources, no one outside the advisory council was allowed in. After the ECNEC meeting, the Cabinet Secretary, Planning Secretary, and other government officials were seen leaving the NEC conference room. In light of the current political unrest, this advisory council meeting is being considered highly significant.

Later in the afternoon, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to meet with leaders of various political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
