BTRC caps SIM limit to 10 per person

Update : 24 May 2025, 23:28

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has made a new decision regarding the number of SIM cards a person can register under their name.

On Saturday (May 24), BTRC sources confirmed this decision.

According to BTRC, in light of international practices and national security concerns, the maximum number of SIMs a person can register has been reduced from 15 to 10. The socio-economic context of Bangladesh was also taken into consideration.

BTRC further stated that if the new limit of 10 personal SIMs is enforced, approximately 6.7 million SIMs belonging to around 2.6 million users will need to be deactivated.

A BTRC official explained that previously, an individual could register up to 15 SIM cards. Under the new decision, that number is now capped at 10.

It is worth noting that in October 2017, the maximum SIM limit per national ID was set at 15.

Later, in October 2022, BTRC issued a notice urging users with more than 15 SIMs to retain their preferred numbers and deregister the rest. Following that, BTRC conducted a lottery and deactivated excess SIMs beyond the limit.
