A low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining west-central region, which may intensify into a stronger system, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned.
For this development, rainfall and gusty winds are expected in various parts of the country.
In a bulletin issued on Tuesday morning (27 May), the Meteorological Department reported that the southwest monsoon has already advanced into the eastern parts of the Dhaka division, as well as Barisal, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions.
According to the weather forecast, today some areas in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary gusty winds along with light to moderate rain or thundershowers.
Some regions may also receive moderately heavy rain. Daytime temperatures may slightly rise in some places, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
On Wednesday (28 May), rainfall is likely to increase across most parts of the country, especially in the eight divisions mentioned. During this time, light to moderate rain with gusty winds and thunder is expected, and there is also a chance of moderate to very heavy rainfall in some places. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly the same.
Similar weather conditions may persist on Thursday (29 May). Rain is expected to continue across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in some areas of Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. In the southern region, daytime temperatures may decrease by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, and nighttime temperatures across the country may also drop slightly.
On Friday (30 May), similar rain and weather conditions are expected in nearly all divisions. Light to moderate rain with thunder and gusty winds is likely, with heavy rain in some areas. Day and night temperatures may drop slightly.
On Saturday (31 May), no significant change in weather is expected. Rainfall is likely to continue across all eight divisions, and some areas may receive very heavy rain. However, temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
The Meteorological Department has stated that within the next five days, the tendency for rain and thunderstorms may gradually decrease, while temperatures may slightly increase.
