Eid ends, early return to capital begins

Update : 11 Jun 2025, 13:39

Even before the 10-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday has officially ended, many working individuals have begun returning to the capital Dhaka to avoid traffic congestion.

Since Wednesday morning (June 11), such scenes have been observed at various train stations and launch terminals across the city.

On-the-ground reports from Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Gabtoli, Kamalapur Railway Station, and the launch terminals show streams of people arriving in Dhaka from different regions.

Shariful Islam, a private-sector employee, said, “We had a 10-day holiday. I’ve spent Eid with loved ones. Now I’m returning early to avoid Dhaka’s traffic jams. If I’m late to work, I’ll have to face my boss’s anger.”

Tariqul, a banker returning from Jashore, said, “It’s hard to get tickets toward the end of the holiday. Also, there’s usually a huge rush and heavy traffic in Dhaka at that time. That’s why I chose to return early.”

Some launch passengers mentioned that arriving early brought them peace of mind. “There wasn’t much traffic. What usually takes an hour took just 20 minutes,” one said.

According to staff at bus counters, people have started returning, but the pressure is still manageable. “In a few days, the crowd will significantly increase,” one official noted.
