Sian Heder's musical drama CODA bagged the much-awaited Academy Award for the Best Picture at Oscars 2022. The film bagged a total of three nominations and won all of them at the 94th Academy Awards.
Will Smith has won the Oscar for best actor for portarying Venus and Serena Williams' father Richard in the tennis biopic “King Richard". The film followed the story of Richard Williams who trains his two daughters in tennis to make them legendary players.
Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress award in the lead role for her portrayal of Tammy Faye in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye. In her award acceptance speech, Chastains said, "In times like this, I think of Tammy, and am inspired by her radical acts of love. Love...unites us all in our desire to be accepted for who we are, accepted for who we love, and to live a life free of violence and terror."
Ariana DeBose was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance in West Side Story.
Troy Kotsur was named Best Supporting Actor for his performance in CODA.
This year, Jane Campion's The Power of The Dog has received the most number of nominations. With 12 nods, it is the first film by a female director to have been nominated in multiple categories. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune has received 10 nominations. The Timothée Chalamet-Zendaya starrer has won six Oscars so far.
Dame Jane won Best Director, but the film lost in all 10 of the other categories it was nominated for, including Best Picture, which went instead to Coda.
Sci-fi epic Dune had the second highest number of nominations with 10 and won six of them: Sound, Production Design, Cinematography, Score, Editing and Visual Effects.
British filmmaker Kenneth Branagh won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Belfast and Sian Heder won the Best Adapted Screenplay for CODA.
Billie Eilish and her co-writer and brother, Finneas O’Connell, won the Oscar for Best Original Song for “No Time To Die” from the James Bond film No Time To Die.
