Bangladesh’s per capita GDP reached $2,593 in 2024, according to a recent World Bank report. Compared to 2023, per capita income has increased by $63 this year.
The report states that among South Asian countries, India tops the list in terms of per capita income, followed by Bangladesh. India’s current per capita GDP stands at $2,696—which is $103 higher than Bangladesh’s.
Among Asia’s 20 low-income countries, Jordan ranks the highest in per capita GDP, with an income of $4,618. In comparison, Bangladesh is positioned 12th.
Some other notable countries on the list include Sri Lanka, whose per capita GDP is about $2,000 higher than Bangladesh’s. On the other hand, Pakistan’s per capita income is nearly $1,000 lower than that of Bangladesh.
At the bottom of the list is Afghanistan, with the lowest per capita GDP of only $413.
According to analysts, while this rise in income is overall positive, Bangladesh must strengthen the sustainable foundations of its economy in order to remain competitive regionally and globally.
