Marking the upcoming Durga Puja, the government has taken a policy decision to export 1,200 metric tons of hilsa fish to India under certain conditions. This information was announced in a Commerce Ministry circular signed by SHM Magfurul Hasan Abbasi, Deputy Secretary of the Export-2 Wing of the ministry, on Monday.

According to the circular, as in previous years, this year too the government has decided to allow conditional export of 1,200 metric tons of hilsa to India for Durga Puja. Interested exporters must submit hardcopy applications during office hours by 5:00 pm on September 11.

The application must include updated trade license, ERC, income tax certificate, VAT certificate, sales agreement, fisheries department license, and other relevant documents of the exporting company. The minimum export price has been fixed at USD 12.5 per kilogram (equivalent to Tk 1,521 per kg).

The Ministry of Commerce also stated that those who had already applied without any prior notice must reapply under this new procedure.

Last year, on the occasion of Durga Puja, the interim government approved the export of 3,000 metric tons of hilsa, though the amount was later revised down to 2,420 tons.
