BNP leader Ishraq arrested in Dhaka

Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Ishraq Hossain, son of former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka was arrested at Motijheel in Dhaka on Wednesday while he was leading a campaign against the abnormal rise in prices of daily essential commodities.

Engineer Ishraque Hossain was the no. 1 accused in a case of arson. He was arrested “on a warrant” in that case. He is now in Motijheel police station," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Mithu.

Metropolitan Magistrate Tamanna Farah issued the order this afternoon. He was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on an arrest warrant in a Motijheel police station case. His lawyer applied for bail in court. Following the hearing, the judge denied bail and ordered to be sent to jail.

Ishraque Hossain is a member of the BNP’s International Affairs Committee. He was the BNP candidate in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections in 2020.
