Earthquake leaves 3 dead in Dhaka

At least three people were killed as the railing of a building collapsed on them following a strong earthquake in Koshaituli area of Dhaka on Friday. 

The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately, said Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP's Lalbagh Division.

Besides, many workers were injured in various factories in Gazipur as they rushed out during the earthquake.

Earlier, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh on Friday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The tremor occurred around 10:38am and lasted about a minute.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 13 km east of the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, BMD added.
