At the Tetulia Weather Observatory in Panchagarh, the lowest temperature recorded at 6 a.m. on Sunday was 12.6°C. At that time, the air humidity was 97 percent.
As the intensity of winter increases little by little each day, the presence of cold weather is now evident throughout the district. From dawn to morning, the chilly wind and high humidity are signaling the arrival of a new season even before residents shake off their sleep.
However, due to the absence of dense fog, no obstacles were reported on roads and highways. Although the sun appeared after the light morning fog cleared, the high humidity made the cold feel even sharper.
The previous day, Saturday, Tetulia recorded 14.7°C at the same time, with an even higher humidity level—99 percent. Despite bright sunlight at noon, the significant difference between day and night temperatures has made the cold distinctly noticeable from night until morning.
Cold winds have been blowing across Debiganj, Boda, Atwari, Panchagarh Sadar, and surrounding areas since dawn. Locals say the sudden drop in temperature over a few days has intensified the feeling of winter. Many have already begun wearing warm clothes as needed.
Jitendranath Roy, a meteorologist at the Tetulia Weather Observatory, said that throughout the past week, the minimum temperature in Tetulia had been around 14°C. However, on Sunday it dropped further. He added that temperatures may fall even more in the coming week. He also fears that winter will grip the northern region firmly from the beginning of December.
Meanwhile, the early signs of winter have increased the demand for warm clothing in various markets across the district. Rickshaw-pullers, day laborers, and farmers are heading out to work in the morning while battling the intensified cold. Locals believe that if the cold increases further, the suffering of low-income people may worsen.
With temperatures continuing to drop in Panchagarh, the cold is expected to spread more widely across the district. In several areas, morning fog has increased, and evening chill has intensified sharply. It is reported that the local administration is already preparing for the cold season.
People in every cold-prone district are curious about what this year’s winter will be like. However, meteorologists predict that Panchagarh and other northern regions will once again remain among the coldest areas in the country. As a result, residents of the district will have to wait a bit longer to see the true face of winter.
