Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, who won five Grand Slam titles during her career spanning 2001 to 2020, announced that she is pregnant. On her 35th birthday on April 19, she announced via Instagram that she he and fiance Alexander Gilkes are going to be parents for the first time.
“Precious beginnings!!!” Her caption read. “Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty.”
The photo was shared with the caption to her 4.2 million followers, in which Sharapova was seen rubbing her bump on the beach. The 35-year-old wore an orange bandeau top with dark sweatpants as her coveted blonde hair broke.
Alexander commented on the post with a heart-eye emoji.
The 42-year-old British businessman Alexander proposed to Maria in December 2020, when he presented her a £300,000 engagement ring. The pair took to their respective Instagram pages to share the news with the art dealer, writing: “I look forward to a lifetime of loving you and learning from @mariasharapova.”
The five-time grand slam champion retired from tennis in 2020. She is one of only 10 women to complete the career Grand Slam, winning five total Grand Slam tournaments across 10 years.
