Update : 14 Dec 2025, 15:33

New South Wales Police in Australia say two people are in custody as they respond to a "developing incident" at Bondi Beach.

They say an operation is under way and are urging the public to avoid the area, telling anyone already there to take shelter, BBC reports.

There are multiple fatalities following the shooting at Bondi Beach, New South Wales police has confirmed. They have not provided an update about how many people have died.

Police say two shooters have been "neutralised", while there is an active police scene to clear the area of suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Two police officers are reportedly injured, although the severity of their injuries is unknown. Police also said it is not known at this stage if the incident is connected to the Hanukkah event taking place on the beach.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's spokesperson says they are "aware of an active security situation".

Local media reports there is an active shooting at the site, and it's not yet clear if anyone has been injured.
