Following an attack and vandalism at the headquarters of Prothom Alo in Karwan Bazar, the main office of the English daily The Daily Star in Farmgate has also come under attack by an agitated crowd.
Around 12:30 am on Thursday night, arson was carried out on the ground floor of The Daily Star office during the attack. Several staff members are currently trapped on the rooftop and are reportedly unable to come down due to the intensity of the fire.
Eyewitnesses said that a procession of agitated people marched from Shahbag and gathered in front of the Prothom Alo office. At that time, they chanted various anti–Prothom Alo and anti-India slogans. At one point, some individuals entered the office premises, carried out vandalism, and set fire in front of the building. They later attacked the The Daily Star office.
The concerned authorities and law enforcement agencies are trying to bring the situation under control.
