Update : 30 Dec 2025, 15:28

A large number of BNP leaders and activists gathered outside Evercare Hospital on Tuesday following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Witnesses said several hundred people had thronged the hospital premises since Tuesday morning.

Many were seen breaking down in tears while some peered through the barbed-wire fence set up at the hospital gate.

A group of local madrasa students were also seen reciting the holy Quran in front of the hospital.

Begum Khaleda Zia, a three-time former prime minister and BNP Chairperson, passed away at 6 am on Tuesday.

She had been admitted to the hospital on November 23.

As her condition worsened on November 27, she was shifted to the ICU, where she remained on life support until her death.

Following her demise, the government has declared a three-day state mourning and a general holiday starting Wednesday.
