Ramadan essentials fully stocked, says BB

Update : 15 Feb 2026, 21:17

The country has sufficient stock of essential commodities in the market ahead of Ramadan, said the Bangladesh Bank. The central bank’s spokesperson, Arif Hossain Khan, said that nearly 40 percent more consumer goods were imported compared to last year, even before the election, which will help maintain market stability during Ramadan.

He noted that although controlling unemployment and inflation during Ramadan remains a major challenge for the new government, the overall supply situation is satisfactory. He expressed hope that if supply meets demand, there will be no negative impact on inflation. According to him, if no shortages occur, people will be able to observe a comfortable Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has announced that it will supply products to 3 to 3.5 million consumers through truck sales during Ramadan. In addition to soybean oil, lentils, and sugar, chickpeas and dates will also be sold at subsidized prices to keep essential goods affordable for the general public.

Sources at Bangladesh Bank also said that since port operations are functioning normally, there are no obstacles to the clearance and transportation of goods. The spokesperson further mentioned that if importers properly release their stocked goods into the market, there will be no risk of a supply crisis.

Overall, those concerned expect that the supply situation remains under control ahead of Ramadan and that market stability will be maintained.
