India is interested in further strengthening its multifaceted bilateral relationship with Bangladesh’s new government, said the spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal.
Speaking at a weekly briefing on Friday, Jaiswal stated, “As you know, following the BNP’s victory in Bangladesh’s election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government on 17 February. He handed over a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tarique Rahman.”
According to Jaiswal, the letter reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the building of a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. He also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would further expand on the basis of their historic and warm relations.
Bangladesh and India maintain cooperation in various areas, including trade, connectivity, energy, security, and cultural exchange. New Delhi expects these ties to deepen further under the new government.
During the briefing, Jaiswal also addressed visa operations between the two countries, stating that discussions on these matters would take place gradually with the Bangladesh government.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal said that the Indian government is closely monitoring the recent situation in Iran. “We have issued the necessary advisories for our citizens residing in Iran,” he added.
