To ensure the safe and smooth journey of passengers on waterways during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, all necessary measures have been taken, said Minister of Shipping, Railways, Bridges, and Road Transport, Sheikh Robiul Alam Robi. He clearly stated that fares will not be increased during Eid.
The minister made the statement to reporters after a preparatory meeting on ensuring safe waterway travel for Eid, held at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 26).
He said, "Around 26 decisions have been taken to ensure safe travel on the waterways during Eid. This year's Eid journey will be safe."
Clarifying the difference between donations and extortion, the minister said, "Extortion is a crime, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will address that. Measures have been taken to ensure smooth travel on the waterways, and fares will not increase."
The Minister of Shipping further explained, "Extortion involves forcible collection of money. There will be no extortion on the roads. Money collected through mutual agreements between workers and owners is not extortion. It is spent on the welfare of workers."
The minister also mentioned initiatives to introduce new measures for Eid travel. He stated that there will be no opportunities for extortion from vehicles on the roads.
Regarding the distribution of responsibilities among the deputy ministers, he said, "I have not done anything on my own. It has been done following the directions of the Cabinet Division."
The minister expressed hope that, due to coordinated preparations, this year’s Eid journey would be more comfortable than ever before.
