Due to the war situation in the Middle East, fuel oil prices are rising rapidly in the global market. Since the Strait of Hormuz—an important route for global oil supply—has been closed, the possibility of a fuel crisis in the world market in the near future cannot be ruled out.
In this context, the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has urged shopkeepers and shopping malls to turn off decorative lighting and unnecessary lights to save fuel.
On Saturday in the capital, the organization’s president, Helal Uddin, told journalists that the decision was taken to conserve fuel.
He said, “This (fuel crisis) has been created internationally. It has arisen due to the war involving America, Israel, and Iran. We believe that whatever the reason, we must be economical. From tomorrow (Sunday), we will turn off decorative lighting in all markets. At the same time, we will also switch off lights that are not very necessary.”
It is worth noting that the Bangladesh government has already taken steps to supply fuel domestically through rationing.
However, Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has clearly stated that there is no need to worry about oil, as the country has sufficient fuel reserves. He also said that mobile courts will be launched from Sunday to prevent attempts to hoard fuel.
