To ensure safe and smooth travel for people returning home for the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, advance train ticket sales are starting today, Sunday (March 8), for the sixth day in a row. Today, passengers can purchase tickets for intercity trains departing on March 18.
As in previous years, Bangladesh Railway has decided to sell 100% of the tickets online to reduce public suffering and long queues.
According to the railway’s schedule, advance ticket sales for all intercity trains in the western region will begin at 8:00 AM today. Meanwhile, tickets for trains in the eastern region will be available from 2:00 PM. This seven-day advance ticket sale system was decided in a special preparatory meeting recently held at the Railway Bhaban.
Earlier, tickets for March 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 were sold in phases starting from March 3. According to the schedule, advance tickets for March 19 will be available tomorrow, March 9. Additionally, depending on the sighting of the moon, the railway authorities plan to sell tickets for March 20, 21, and 22 as well. With the online system, passengers are being relieved from the hassle of standing in long lines at stations to buy tickets.
The railway has also introduced some special rules for purchasing tickets. Each passenger can buy a maximum of four seats in a single transaction, and these tickets cannot be returned or refunded later.
At the request of passengers, 25% of the seats in non-AC coaches will be allocated as “standing tickets.” These standing tickets can be collected from the respective stations just before the train’s departure.
