Dense clouds and the rumble of thunder are being heard across the country. The Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thunderstorms with gusty or squally winds in all eight divisions over the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility of scattered hailstorms in some areas.
According to the bulletin issued on Tuesday evening, rainfall was recorded at 18 out of 61 observation stations in the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Srimangal, known as the tea capital, with 49 millimeters.
Additionally, Netrokona recorded 25 mm, Dinajpur 16 mm, and Mymensingh 13 mm of rainfall. While this unseasonal rain and gusty winds have brought some relief to daily life in different parts of the country, the risk of hailstorms has caused concern among farmers.
The synoptic situation states that an extension of a low-pressure system is currently located over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, the seasonal low-pressure system is positioned over the South Bay of Bengal. As a result, on Wednesday (March 18), many places in Sylhet Division and a few places in Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience temporary gusty winds, lightning, and rain.
According to the bulletin, this weather pattern may continue on March 19 and 20 as well. Rainfall intensity is expected to be somewhat higher, especially in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. During this period, day and night temperatures across the country may remain nearly unchanged, though temperatures could drop slightly from Friday.
Meteorologists expect the cloudy skies and rainy conditions to persist for the next few days. Due to the possibility of hailstorms, special care has been advised for gardens and croplands.
