Eid-ul-Fitr being celebrated in Gulf, other countries

Update : 20 Mar 2026, 12:03

Eid ul-Fitr is being celebrated today in Saudi Arabia and various countries across the Middle East. As the moon marking the month of Shawwal was not sighted on Thursday in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, authorities announced that Eid al-Fitr would be observed on Friday, according to a Reuters report.

Eid prayers will be held at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Special Eid congregations have also been arranged in mosques across the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. However, due to the war in Iran, Eid prayers in open grounds (Eidgahs) have been canceled in several places this year.

In addition to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, Eid al-Fitr is also being celebrated today in Australia and several countries in Africa.

Meanwhile, many countries in Asia did not sight the Shawwal moon on Thursday and will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Saturday. These include Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran, Libya, Morocco, and several other countries in Asia and Africa.
