Nationwide nor'wester alert issued

The Meteorological Department has said that moderate to very heavy rainfall may occur across the country over the next 96 hours. This information was provided in a warning signed by meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam on Tuesday (April 28).

According to the weather office, a warning for nor'wester has been issued nationwide for the next 48 hours. This trend of nor['wester may continue until the first week of May. Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions due to very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, 187 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Sylhet in the past 24 hours, which is classified as very heavy rainfall. Although there is no forecast of extremely heavy rainfall in the capital Dhaka, there is a possibility of rain every day.

In the warning issued about nor'wester, it is stated that from 11:00 AM today and within the next 48 hours, Kalbaishakhi storms with thunder and lightning may sweep across the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet, coming from the west/northwest at wind speeds of 60–80 km/h.

On Wednesday (April 29), many places in the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds along with lightning and light to moderate rain or thundershowers.
