Anindita Oni’s First Solo Exhibition ‘She in Stone’ Opens in Dhaka

Update : 21 Jun 2026, 15:29

Artist Anindita Oni’s first solo art exhibition, She in Stone, opened at Daagi Art Garage in Hazaribagh, Dhaka, presenting a unique artistic exploration of womanhood, memory, and transformation through paintings created on natural stones.

The exhibition, which began on June 19, features 30 artworks painted with acrylics on river-worn stones collected from the Mahananda River in Panchagarh. Through the unconventional medium, Oni portrays various stages and experiences of a woman’s life, including childhood, adolescence, dreams, love, motherhood, struggle, silence, and self-discovery.

The exhibition was inaugurated by artist and cultural organizer Sonia Binta Hasan and will remain open to visitors until June 23, daily from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Among the featured works are Emergence, A Time of Dreams, A Seed of Hope, The Unfolding Wings, and Face of Resilience, which reflect themes of aspiration, self-reliance, and growth. Other pieces, including Veil of Silence, The Unspoken Weight, Generations, and The Red Witness, delve into memory, relationships, legacy, and unspoken sorrow.

According to the exhibition concept, She in Stone is a symbolic commentary on womanhood, time, memory, and transformation. The artist uses stone not merely as a material but as a metaphor for permanence, experience, and the passage of time. The natural textures, cracks, and imperfections of the stones serve as visual representations of memory and personal evolution.

Drawing inspiration from humanity’s earliest forms of visual expression on stone surfaces, the exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between the silence of stone and contemporary artistic language. Through this body of work, Oni invites viewers to reflect on the strength, resilience, and evolving identity of women.

Born in 1999, Anindita Oni studied at Ideal School and College before completing her higher secondary education at Holy Cross College. She later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka Art College. In addition to her work as a painter, she is an enlisted drama and recitation artist with Bangladesh Betar and has also ventured into filmmaking with her first short film, Udhao.
