The High Commission of India in Dhaka has warned the public against fraudsters impersonating its officials and offering fake visa and consular services in exchange for money.
The warning came in a public advisory issued by the Indian mission and posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, according to a press release.
The High Commission said it had received reports of scammers contacting people through phone calls, WhatsApp, social media platforms and email, falsely claiming to represent the mission and promising to facilitate visas or other consular services in return for payment.
"No official of the High Commission will ever contact you by phone, WhatsApp, social media, or email to offer a visa or solicit money," the advisory said, adding that all visa applications are processed strictly in accordance with established procedures.
The mission urged people not to make any payment or share personal or financial information if they receive such calls, messages or offers.
It requested anyone approached by fraudsters to immediately report the incident to the High Commission by sending the caller's phone number, screenshots or any other relevant information to [email protected].
The High Commission also called on the public to remain vigilant and help raise awareness to protect others from such fraudulent activities.
