More than 500,000 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Moscow launched its invasion in February 2022, British Chief of the Defense Staff Air Marshal Sir Richard Knighton said Friday.
He said Russian casualties had reached 1.5 million, including those killed. The British figures broadly match Ukrainian military estimates. Russia has not commented.
Knighton said Russia’s army was making battlefield progress, while its forces had lost more than 10,000 armored and protected vehicles, nearly 3,000 air defense and artillery systems, and more than 370 aircraft and helicopters. He did not provide figures for Ukrainian losses.
Russian drones struck two Ukrnafta gas stations in Kyiv for a second day, killing two people and injuring six, prosecutors said. Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Russia of targeting civilian locations to cause casualties and fear.
Five people were killed and 67 injured in a Russian drone strike near malls in Pavlohrad. In Zaporizhzhia, a 32-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son were wounded.
Russia said it intercepted 777 Ukrainian drones across 16 regions, Crimea and seas. Two people were killed and three injured in Tula. A Ukrainian drone reportedly hit an oil refinery and Ozon logistics facility in Saratov.
