Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed banks, mobile financial service (MFS) providers, payment service providers (PSPs) and payment system operators (PSOs) to ensure immediate settlement of funds to merchants for all Bangla QR code-based payments from October 1.
The central bank issued the directive through a circular today to make digital transactions more popular and customer-friendly and encourage merchants to accept payments through Bangla QR.
According to the circular, all Bangla QR code-based payments will have to be provided to the concerned merchant as an immediate settlement from October 1, 2026.
The circular also said the previous instruction issued through PSD Circular No. 14 dated November 24, 2025 would be considered cancelled from the same date.
Besides, banks, MFS providers and PSPs have been instructed to display the Bangla QR payment icon at a visible location near the thumb zone at the bottom-center position of the home page of their mobile apps from October 1.
By October 31, arrangements will have to be made to facilitate payments both by scanning Bangla QR and through uploading a Bangla QR image.
The institutions have also been directed to enable all savings and current account holders to make payments by scanning Bangla QR through their respective mobile apps by October 31.
The directives were issued under Section 18(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2024.
