The dengue and measles situation in the country has become concerning. In the past 24 hours (from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday), another eight people have died across the country after contracting mosquito-borne dengue fever.
During the same period, 2,036 people were infected with dengue. Meanwhile, another three children died with measles symptoms. A total of 1,310 people were diagnosed with measles or measles-like symptoms during this period. So far, the number of child deaths from measles and related symptoms has risen to 1,099.
Dengue Situation
In the past 24 hours, another 2,036 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country. This is the second-highest number of infections recorded in a single day this year. On Sunday, 2,158 people were infected with dengue nationwide, the highest one-day total so far this year.
These figures were reported in the Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) regular dengue report, issued Monday afternoon by its Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room. According to the DGHS, as of Monday, the total number of dengue deaths this year had reached 233, while the total number of infections had risen to 75,730.
According to DGHS data, of the eight people who died from dengue in the past 24 hours, three were from Dhaka Division. One death each was reported in the Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi, and Rangpur divisions.
The report said September has seen the highest number of dengue deaths this year, with 136 deaths recorded in the first 28 days of the month.
The bulletin also said that, as of Monday, 70,258 dengue patients had recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Another 2,064 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours.
Last year, 102,861 people were infected with dengue and 413 died. In 2024, 101,214 people were infected and 575 died.
Measles Situation
In the past 24 hours (from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday), another three children died across the country after developing measles symptoms. During the same period, 1,310 new cases were identified.
Of these, 96 were confirmed measles cases, while the remaining 1,214 were classified as suspected measles cases.
The information was provided in the DGHS's regular measles report issued Monday afternoon.
With these deaths, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms this year has risen to 1,099. Of these, 101 deaths were among confirmed measles cases, while 998 were associated with measles symptoms.
On Sunday, nine children died nationwide after developing measles symptoms, while 1,341 new cases were identified. In the past 24 hours, 1,159 measles patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,186 patients were discharged during the same period.
According to DGHS data, since March 15, the number of suspected measles cases has reached 189,255. The number of confirmed/regularly reported measles cases so far stands at 21,308.
A total of 167,469 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals to date, while 160,705 patients have so far been discharged.
