Dengue toll climbs to 294 as five more die

Five people died of dengue and 1,935 new patients were hospitalised in the country in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday.

With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll has risen to 294 in the country this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the new deaths, three were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area and two in Khulna division, it said.

Of the total deaths recorded this year, 47.9 percent were men and 52.1 percent were women.

Since January 1 this year, a total of 94,151 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 88,208 have recovered.

According to the DGHS report, so far 80 people have died in the DSCC area while 59 in Khulna division, 35 in Dhaka North City Corporation area, 25 in Chattogram division, 23 in Mymensingh division, 25 in Barishal division, 21 in Rajshahi division, 17 in Dhaka division, six in Rangpur and three in Sylhet division.
