The government has constituted a minimum wage board for readymade garment (RMG) sector comprising representatives from employers, workers, and neutral parties to determine the minimum wage for garments workers.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment issued two separate notifications in this regard today.

According to a notification, ABM Shamsuddin, a director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has been appointed as the representative for the employers, while Babul Akhter, general secretary of Bangladesh Garment and Industrial Workers Federation, as the representative for the workers.

In another notification, Dr Mosleh Uddin Ahmad, a professor of the Department of Public Administration at Dhaka University, has been appointed as a neutral member, while Asif Ayub, joint secretary-general of the Bangladesh Employers Federation, as an employers' representative and Anwar Hossain, president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, as a workers' representative.

These appointments have been made in line with Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 (as amended in 2026).

The notifications have asked the chairman of the minimum wage board to initiate the necessary proceedings - in consultation with the representatives of the employers, workers, and the neutral members - to determine the minimum wage for garment workers.
