Is your phone call being secretly recorded?

Update : 10 Aug 2022, 14:59

If you've got an Android phone and you've been sharing some particularly sensitive goss recently, you might want to read this. Because it turns out the smartphones might have been recording you at certain times without you ever having realised.

These days, phone calls get recorded, which is extremely harmful for a variety of reasons. It's especially bad if you're sharing something private or important with someone, because no one wants their information to be leaked and misused. However, you can avoid this issue if you know that your call is getting recorded. If you are suspecting that your phone call is being recorded or just want to make sure that it doesn't happen, you can follow the following steps to know for sure:

Continuous sound of beep

If while talking on a call, you are hearing the sound of beep constantly it could be a sign that your call is being recorded.

It is illegal in many countries to record someone's call without their knowledge, which is why most mobile phone makers include a beep sound in their devices. So, when someone records a call, the beep tone is heard again and again.

If you want to find out what (if any) audio has been recorded, here's how you do it:

  • Sign into your Gmail or Google account on a computer.
  • Type "history.google.com/history" into your web browser.
  • On the lefthand menu, click 'Activity controls'.
  • Scroll down to the 'Voice & Audio activity' section and click that. There you'll find a chronological list of all the voice and audio recordings which will include any recorded without you knowing.

Once you've checked your audio recording history, you'll know whether any recordings have occurred without you having been aware, and therefore whether you'll need to watch what you're saying around your phone and not just the people you're bitching about.
